Why Eating Clean Will Change Your Life

What is eating clean?  It’s one of the best changes you can make to your diet.  The goal of eating clean is to eat the least amount of processed or additive filled foods.  Clean eating encourages you to eat more fresh produce, lean meats, whole grains, and minimally altered packaged foods.  Eating foods that are closer to their natural state means that you get the maximum amount of nutrients from your food.  More natural food also provides you with better sustainable energy because your body doesn’t have to work as hard to break down any unnatural additives.  Here are our top reasons that clean eating will make your life better.

Less Net Calories – It’s been proven that processed foods is not processed the same as natural foods.  Between a whole foods and a processed foods meal that were the same amount of calories and were rated the same on satiety, the whole foods meal took more energy to process.  Processed foods provide more net calories because the body does not have to work as hard to digest them.  Natural foods take more energy to break down and therefore cost you less total calories.

Easy Transition to Other Diets – Eating clean makes for an easier transition to a gluten free, vegetarian, or vegan lifestyle.  If your goal is to reach a more restrictive diet, eating clean can help ease you into cutting out processed foods or meat products.

Eating Clean is Fun – You can find many food blogs that run on a clean eating lifestyle.  Getting ideas from bloggers can make preparing food fun and exciting.  We recommend checking out Lexi’s Clean Kitchen, Sprouted Kitchen, or Minimalist Baker for some ideas and recipes.

Better Workout Fuel – Eating clean helps cut out processed foods that don’t give you the fuel you need for a energized workout.  Eating more whole grains and lean meats will help fuel yourself for maximum potential in the weight room and beyond.

Less Dehydration – More natural foods are lower in salt and preservatives than processed foods or microwave meals.  A lower salt intake will help keep you from getting dehydrated as easily.  Don’t forget to still drink plenty of water every day!
